US condemns violence against protesters in Myanmar

The United States Embassy in Myanmar condemned on Saturday police shootings of anti-coup protestors in Myanmar, stating that "no one should be harmed for exercising the right to dissent."

"We are deeply troubled by the fatal shooting of protestors in Mandalay, a day after the death of Mya Thwe Thwe Khine in Nay Pyi Taw. The military must stop violence against the people of Myanmar," the embassy tweeted.

Earlier in the day, two protesters died after being shot at with live rounds during anti-coup protests in the country's city of Mandalay. However, the military denies conducting a coup, but only seizing the power to organize new elections.
