Biden OMB pick confirmation unlikely

The confirmation of President Joe Biden's pick to lead the Office of Management and Budget became highly unlikely after Republican Senator Mitt Romney announced on Monday he would oppose Neera Tanden's nomination.

"Senator Romney has been critical of extreme rhetoric from prior nominees, and this is consistent with that position. He believes it’s hard to return to comity and respect with a nominee who has issued a thousand mean tweets," the Utah senator's spokesperson said.

Earlier, moderate senators Susan Collins and Joe Manchin also announced their intention to vote against Tanden's confirmation, leaving the fate of Biden's OMB nominee to the last remaining moderate Lisa Murkowski. Other senators are expected to vote along party lines.
