Brazil approves Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine

Brazil's health regulatory agency Anvisa announced on Tuesday that it approved the coronavirus vaccine made by Pfizer and BionNTech for widespread use. The vaccine is the first to be granted definitive registration in Brazil after Sinovac and AstraZeneca shots were given emergency authorization.

Anvisa Director Antonio Barra Torres said the vaccine was authorized after a 17-day review period during which its safety, quality and effectiveness were tested. He expressed hope that other vaccines will soon be evaluated and approved.
