Sunak extends furlough scheme until end of September

British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak (pictured) announced on Wednesday that the furlough scheme will be extended in the United Kingdom until the end of September to mitigate the negative impact that the coronavirus pandemic had on employment in the country.

He added that the support, aimed at helping the self-employed, will be prolonged until September, describing the program as "one of the most generous" in the world.

Sunak also unveiled that the UK government will increase "the apprentice incentive payments" to "businesses to £3,000" for all new hires, regardless of age.
