Yellen: $1.9T stimulus would relieve suffering of Americans

United States Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told PBS on Friday that, if passed by Congress, the Biden administration's $1.9 trillion stimulus package would "relieve the suffering" of the American people amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yellen praised the latest jobs report that saw US nonfarm payrolls rise by 379,000 in February but insisted that, with such a pace of job growth, it would take more than two years to return to full employment. She stressed the government wants to make sure it happens "a lot sooner than that."

The Treasury secretary insisted the "most important" thing is to get the economy "back on track" as soon as possible to prevent the pandemic crisis from permanently scarring the people.
