Biden supports Senate Dems' jobless benefits deal - WH

The White House said that United States President Joe Biden supports the compromise Senate Democrats reached on unemployment benefits in his administration's $1.9 trillion stimulus package.

"The President supports the compromise agreement, and is grateful to all the Senators who worked so hard to reach this outcome. It extends supplemental unemployment benefit into September, and helps the vast majority of unemployment insurance recipients avoid unanticipated tax bills," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement. "Most importantly, this agreement allows us to move forward on the urgently needed American Rescue Plan, with $1400 relief checks, funding we need to finish the vaccine rollout, open our schools, help those suffering from the pandemic, and more," she added.

Earlier, West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, who had reservations about the Democrats' initial jobless benefits plan, announced a compromise on the amendment has been reached and Democrats agreed to support extending the additional unemployment insurance until September 6.
