Suu Kyi to appear in court on multiple charges

Myanmar's deposed State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi will appear in court via video on Monday, facing charges for possessing unlicensed walkie-talkies, violating coronavirus restrictions, breaching telecommunications laws and intent to cause public unrest, AFP reported. This will be her first appearance since another court date on March 1, as she has been in custody since the military coup on February 1.

The trial will take place amid increasingly violent protests demanding the restoration of democracy. According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, at least 39 civilians were killed on Sunday during anti-military demonstrations. Protesters also set fire to a number of Chinese-owned factories, believing that China is supporting the coup.
