Europe kicks off in green on vaccine optimism

Shares on major European stock markets started Monday's session higher as investors seem more optimistic over containing the coronavirus pandemic. The United Kingdom has administered over 23.6 million COVID-19 vaccine doses so far, while more than 5 million people in France have received at least the first dose of the vaccine.

On the other hand, the Italian government plans to inoculate "at least" 80% of the country's population by September, according to Italy's vaccination campaign coordinator Lieutenant General Francesco Figliuolo.

The DAX stood flat at the opening bell. The FTSE 100 in London gained 0.19% as BT Group went up by 2.55% at 9:01 am CET, while the CAC 40 ticked 0.44% higher with Danone surging 4.20% at 9:02 am CET. The euro slid 0.34% to trade for $1.19196 at 8:58 am CET, and the pound declined by 0.08%, changing hands for $1.39180 a minute later.
