Volkswagen to build six battery factories by 2030

Volkswagen Group Chief Technology Officer Thomas Schmall announced on Monday the carmaker plans to build six new battery factories by 2030, with a capacity of 240 Gigawatt hours (GWh).

The company is already building a Gigafactory in Salzgitter, Germany, while the Swedish city of Skelleftea has been chosen as the second location. Seat's production facility in Spain is also being considered as one of the locations, according to Swiss news portal Cash.

At the same time, Volkswagen has set 2023 as the start date from which the company should start producing car batteries for its electric vehicles.
