Federal agency probes Tesla over solar installations safety - report

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has launched an investigation into Tesla's safety management and monitoring of fire risks in its solar installations, based on the company's whistleblower comments, CNBC reported on Monday, citing documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.

CPSC will be using the evidence provided by Steven Henkes, the former Tesla Solar Field Quality Manager, who claims that "there continues to be a real threat of fires due to serial defects in the Tesla installations [...] The consumers have not been adequately informed of the risks".

Henkes has raised concerns within the company in 2019, but later he filed complaints with governmental agencies, for which he was fired from Tesla in 2020. Henkes is now suing the company for alleged retaliation.
