HK halts Pfizer vaccine rollout over packaging defect

Hong Kong and Macau health authorities stopped temporarily the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer/BioNTech, due to packaging defects registered within a batch sent to the region.

The pharmaceutical company Fosun, which distributes Pfizer's vaccine in Asia, notified the health officials from the two special administrative regions that batch 210102 contains defective vial lids, and stated it would halt the delivery of any further doses from the batch until the matter is investigated.

"For the sake of precaution, the current vaccination must be suspended during the period of investigation," an official statement issued by the Hong Kong government read.
