GM widens production halt due to chip shortage

General Motors Co. announced on Wednesday it is extending manufacturing cuts in North America due to a shortage in semiconductor chips.

The Detroit automaker stated production in its Wentzville plant in Missouri will be paused for two weeks. The Lansing Grand River factory in Michigan, which has already been idled, will extend the halt for another 14 days.

Manufacturing in the Kansas and Ontario facilities will be down until at least mid-April, while the San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico will resume work on April 5, the company said.
