Precious metals up after weak US jobs data

Precious metals trader higher on Thursday after the United States Labor Department reported a larger than expected increase in jobless claims, seemingly causing investor concerns about the recovery of the world's largest economy and shifting their focus to safe-haven assets.

Gold gained 1.19% to $1,728.18 per ounce at 3:34 pm ET. Silver jumped 2.03% to sell for $24.91 per ounce a minute later.

Palladium rose by 1.74% to $2,668.25 per ounce at 3:36 pm CET. Platinum increased by 2.35% to change hands for $1,212.30 at the same time.
