NI executive to meet, talk riots over Brexit deal

The Northern Ireland Executive confirmed on Thursday it would meet later in the day to discuss the protests against the Northern Ireland Protocol from the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement currently taking place in Belfast and Derry.

The riots, which have entered their sixth day, have seen unrest in the streets, clashes between the so-called loyalists to the United Kingdom and nationalists, and a bus hijacked and set on fire.

The protests came as a response to the lack of a solution to the dispute between the UK and the European Union over the Northern Ireland Protocol, deepened after Britain decided to unilaterally extend a grace period for some checks on goods going to Northern Ireland. Brussels eventually started a "formal infringement process" against London over the matter.
