American temporarily grounds Boeing 737s

American Airlines Inc. stated on Friday it had temporarily removed 17 of its recently purchased Boeing 737 MAXs from its traffic after the Boeing Company told its customers to "address a potential electrical issue" for some of those planes.

Earlier in the day, Boeing recommended check-ups to verify "sufficient ground path exists for a component of the electrical power system." It added it would "provide direction on appropriate corrective actions."

American Airlines resumed its flights with 737 MAX back in December. All the planes from the class had previously been temporarily landed following deadly crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia.
