Infrastructure plan may involve building high speed rail - Buttigieg

United States Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg spoke during a briefing on Friday about the American Jobs Plan, saying that the $80 billion from the bill that was allocated to the railway industry may include building new routes for high-speed cross-country rail service.

When asked about funding resources for the bill, Buttigieg said "there's ample evidence corporations can be competitive at a tax rate of 28%" as they were competitive at a rate of 35%. He pointed out that both Democrat and Republican lawmakers agree on the necessity of the plan, the negotiations take place only over the subject of funding the bill.

The US official also touched on recent news from Boeing in regards to 737 MAX aircraft issues, saying current problems are different from any previously reported ones and that it is important to make sure there is full confidence before the planes return to air.
