Asia trades mostly higher with vaccine developments in spotlight

Equities on major Asian stock markets traded mostly higher on Wednesday after Moderna reported its vaccine was 90% effective against coronavirus six months after the second dose, while Pfizer revealed it will deliver 10% more doses to the United States next month than previously agreed, seemingly lifting optimism about the recovery of the world's largest economy despite a setback related to the Johnson & Johnson shot. Meanwhile, Toshiba confirmed that its Chairman and CEO Nobuaki Kurumatani has resigned.

The Nikkei 225 index was 0.36% lower at 7:27 am CET. The Shanghai Composite increased by 0.26% at 7:12 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite Index was up 1.22% at 7:27 am CET and the Hang Seng jumped 1.22% a minute later. The Kospi gained 0.40% at 7:28 am CET. The S&P/ASX 200 in Australia advanced 0.63% at the same time.

The dollar was 0.12% down compared to the yen, going for 108.9290 at 7:29 am CET.
