Asia trades higher after optimistic Chinese data

Shares in the Asia-Pacific region traded with gains on Friday amid optimistic data coming from China. Beijing's economy saw improvements in regard to both retail sales and industrial production, while its gross domestic product (GDP) soared 18.3% in the year's first quarter.

On the COVID front, South Korean pharmaceutical company Huons Global Co Ltd. unveiled that it plans to make up to 100 million doses of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine on a monthly scale.

On the Chinese mainland, the Shenzhen Composite traded 0.26% higher at 7:01 am CET, as the Shanghai Composite added 0.46%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng went up by 0.13% at 7:16 am CET, while the Australian S&P/ASX 200 stood flat a minute later.

At 7:18 am CET, South Korea's Kospi Composite advanced 0.09%, and Japan's Nikkei 225 ticked 0.14% higher. A minute later, the dollar was unchanged against the yen, going for ¥108.8010.
