Samsung, Renesas to restore chip outputs - report

Samsung Electronics is restoring semiconductor production in Texas after severe winter weather blackouts earlier this year by recovering chipmaking equipment in May and finally bringing output volumes to pre-shutdown levels by June, Nikkei reported on Friday citing sources familiar with the matter.

Meanwhile, Renesas, a Japanese chip manufacturer, is rehabilitating after a fire incident in March. Halting the production delayed outputs by two to three months. The plant will restart at minimal capacity this week but will normalize production levels by June.

Experts believe the global chip shortage that affects electric vehicle and electronics manufacturing will continue through 2022.
