South Korea to collect info on Sputnik V - FM

South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs instructed its diplomatic missions in a dozen foreign countries to gather safety information regarding Russia's COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V, said the ministry spokesperson Choi Young-sam in a press briefing on Thursday.

The ministry received an official request about the inquiry into the vaccine, including any potential links to cases of blood clots, from the country's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. The requests came after President Moon Jae-in instructed his officials to look into potentially introducing the jab in the country due to growing concerns over vaccine shortages. "We are closely watching the vaccine trends in the international community," Choi said.

Seoul's pledge to reach herd immunity by November has met with difficulties, with Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong requesting help on Wednesday from the United States in supplying additional jabs to the country.
