Japan to cut emissions by 46% by 2030 - report

The Japanese government is about to announce plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 46% within the end of the decade compared to 2013 levels, the Nikkei reported on Thursday.

The major policy shift, compared to the current target of 26%, will be pushed through the wide use of renewable energy as well as energy saving. The decision is expected to be announced by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party following a coordination meeting, according to the report.

Meanwhile, Russia is looking to reduce the level of carbon emissions to around European Union's levels within the next 30 years.
