John Kerry to visit Russia and Brazil 'at some point'

Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry stated during a briefing on Thursday that he may visit Russia and Brazil as "at some point, travel will be warranted". Both of the country's team joined the Leaders Climate summit and expressed interest in cooperation on the climate change issues, which pleasantly surprised Kerry.

John Kerry pointed out that Russian President Vladimir Putin had a very "rational" speech and he put some "decent visionary thoughts on the things we might be looking at and cooperating together". The US official admitted that having the Russian economy heavily rely on gas production does pose some challenges to the environmental goals.

The climate envoy also shared his belief that as some global nations show progress on the matter of climate change and begin to tackle the risks, other countries that are less enthusiastic now will eventually come along too and join the movement.
