Japan's factory activity expands in April

The Japanese Jibun Bank Flash Manufacturing PMI Index stood in line with expectations in April improving by 1.13 points to land at 53.3, compared to last month's results, IHS Markit's report released on Friday showed.

The headline figure landing above the neutral 50 marks an upturn in Japan's manufacturing activity with new order volumes hitting the quickest growth rates since January 2018.

"While some Japanese private sector businesses noted that a resurgence in COVID-19 cases could dampen prospects in the second quarter of the year, firms remained optimistic that overall business activity would improve in the coming 12 months," said IHS Markit's Economist Usamah Bhatti.
