Europe opens in red ahead of PMI data

Major European stock markets opened with losses on Friday ahead of PMI data reports for April set to be published later today. Prior to the opening bell, the British Office for National Statistics reported retail sales in the United Kingdom annually jumped 7.2% in March.

The DAX lost 0.33% at the open, with Daimler rising 1.12% after its Q1 earnings report. The FTSE 100 fell 0.33%, as Bae Systems plc lost 1.70%. The CAC 40 slipped 0.12%. Airbus led the losses by declining 1.37%. The euro gained 0.16% against the dollar to sell for 1.20347 at 9:04 am CET, while the pound climbed 0.12% to $1.38582.
