S. Korea acquires another 40M Pfizer vaccine doses

South Korea's Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) announced on Saturday that the country has secured an additional 40 million doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine.

The additional doses would bring the country's total vaccine supply to 192 million doses, or roughly enough to vaccinate more than 95 million people, nearly double the population of South Korea. The KDCA stated that the increased vaccine supply would mean that eligibility for the inoculation can be widened and that according to their projections it would be possible to vaccinate all adults by the end of September.

South Korea has been looking to boost its vaccine capacity, as the country's foreign minister asked the United States for assistance. Meanwhile, the country has been looking into potentially using the Sputnik V vaccine, as production of the Russian vaccine is scheduled to start in May.
