EU may let vaccinated US tourists' visits this summer - von der Leyen

The European Union may allow tourists from the United States that received a vaccine against COVID-19 to visit the bloc this summer, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in an interview for The New York Times published on Sunday.

"The Americans, as far as I can see, use European Medicines Agency-approved vaccines. This will enable free movement and travel to the EU," she explained. "All 27 member states will accept, unconditionally, all those who are vaccinated with vaccines that are approved by the EMA."

Earlier in the day, European Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton noted the bloc is on track to meet its goals concerning inoculation by the middle of July. Before that, US President Joe Biden praised the pace of the country's vaccination program but warned that there is "a long way to go."
