Europe mixed at open with earnings in spotlight

Shares on the major European stock market indexes traded mixed as the session started on Tuesday, with investors monitoring the release of a fresh slew of corporate earnings.

While HSBC, UBS, Novartis, and BP posted their results in the premarket, earnings by Eli Lilly, General Electric, and Raytheon are scheduled for release after the opening bell. The traders will also keep a close eye on the American technology behemoths Alphabet and Microsoft, which will report after the day's trading on Wall Street ends.

The DAX slid 0.09% at 9:03 am CET, with Delivery Hero down by 0.77%. The FTSE 100 went up by 0.13% at the opening bell as BP jumped 2.87%. The CAC 40 stood flat at the open. The euro surrendered 0.13% to the dollar at 9:05 am CET, selling for 1.20708, while the pound remained unchanged compared to the greenback, going for 1.38984 at the same time.
