Europe closes higher as EU ratifies UK trade deal

Major European stock markets ended Wednesday's session in the green following the news that the European Parliament approved the EU-UK trade deal. On the coronavirus front, French Prime Minister Jean Castex revealed that President Emmanuel Macron will present the government's strategy to end restriction measures on April 30.

The DAX gained 0.28% at the closing bell, with Deutsche Bank surging 10.72% on the Q1 earnings report. The FTSE 100 rose 0.27%, as BP plc jumped 3.50%. The CAC 40 climbed 0.53%. Societe Generale led the gains by advancing 3.82%.

Both the euro and the pound stood slightly in the green against the dollar at 5:32 pm CET to trade for 1.20990 and 1.39180, respectively.
