S. Korea to extend virus measures by 3 weeks - acting PM

The South Korean government has decided to extend the measures imposed to curb the further spread of COVID-19 for another three weeks, acting Prime Minister Hong Nam-ki (pictured) confirmed on Friday.

"With 661 new cases reported on the previous day, we are in a situation where we cannot loosen our sense of alertness," he stressed. As of earlier this day, South Korea counts a total of 122,007 infections and 1,828 coronavirus-related deaths registered since the start of the pandemic.

Hong also recently called for the acceleration of the country's vaccination program to achieve inoculating "1.5 million people per day by May."
