Asian markets lower after economic data

Asian markets traded lower on Friday following the release of a string of economic data reports from Japan and China.

China’s factory activity in April missed expectations earlier, while Japan's consumer confidence index declined slightly, according to the most recent data. Meanwhile, investors remained focused on developments surrounding the coronavirus pandemic as rising infection rates led to renewed economic concerns across the region.

The Nikkei 225 sank 0.87% at 7:40 am CET, while the Korean Kospi Composite dipped 0.67%. At the same time, the Shanghai Composite dropped 1.19% as the Shenzhen Composite lost 0.65%. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng tanked 1.77%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.96% in Syndey. The dollar was down 0.11% against the Japanese yen at 7:45 am CET, going for ¥108.801.
