Pfizer, India talk expedited COVID vaccine approval - CEO

Pfizer Inc. and Indian authorities are in talks over an "expedited approval pathway" for the use of the vaccine against COVID-19 the company had developed with BioNTech SE in that country, the firm's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Albert Bourla announced on Monday.

"Unfortunately, our vaccine is not registered in India although our application was submitted months ago," he said on LinkedIn. Bourla added Pfizer will be donating medicines worth more than $70 million to India to help the nation combat the ongoing health crisis.

India has been constantly reporting record daily rises in infections from COVID-19 in the past few weeks, with the latest one of 401,993 cases registered this weekend. The United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom all promised to help the country deal with the crisis by sending it medicines, medical equipment, and assistance.
