Labour Party wins majority in Welsh parliament

The Labour Party retained on Saturday its control over the Welsh Parliament (Senedd) after winning 30 out of 60 seats in it in the United Kingdom's local elections, held on May 6.

The party thus matched its best-ever result in the country's southwestern region. Mark Drakeford is expected to remain Welsh First Minister and form his second government again.

The Conservative Party won 16 seats, while Plaid Cymru took 13, and Liberal Democrats one. The votes in most of the other constituencies, including polling for the Scottish Parliament and London Assembly, are still being counted.
