Sturgeon tells PM: Second referendum inevitable

Scottish First Minister told head of the United Kingdom's government Boris Johnson another referendum on the region's independence is "inevitable," her spokesperson stated on Monday.

"The first minister also reiterated her intention to ensure that the people of Scotland can choose our own future when the crisis is over, and made clear that the question of a referendum is now a matter of when, not if," the spokesperson said earlier, adding that Sturgeon's "immediate focus was on steering the country through COVID and into recovery."

Sturgeon's Scottish National Party (SNP) won most seats in the region's parliament in the local elections last week, 63 out of 129, but failed to secure an overall majority. The first minister hailed the results as an "emphatic" victory and warned Johnson to refrain from trying to block Scotland's attempts to hold the second independence referendum.
