Dow extends gains, jumps 300 points

The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared 300 points into the positive territory on Monday, reaching a new record high and surpassing the 35,000 point mark for the first time.

The upbeat sentiment was seemingly backed by optimistic forecasts regarding the COVID-19 pandemic as both National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci and World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom came out with positive predictions.

The Dow Jones soared 0.85% or 296 points at 11:31 am ET, while the Nasdaq 100 plunged deeper into the negative territory losing 1.57% or 215 points at the same time with Apple surrendering more than 1.5% and Tesla tumbling more than 4%. A minute later, the S&P 500 stood flat. The euro was also unchanged versus the dollar, selling for 1.21638 at 11:33 am ET.
