Nikkei plunges over 3% on fresh COVID concerns

Major stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region registered significant losses on Tuesday following the news that consumer prices in China rose less-than-expected 0.9% last month. The Shanghai Composite fell 0.16% at 7:06 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite lost 0.31%.

Commenting on the recovery, Japan's central bank argued that the outlook remains uncertain due to the coronavirus pandemic as well as the pace of the COVID-19 vaccinations. The Nikkei 225 tumbled 3.12% or 921 points at 7:23 am CET, with the dollar standing flat against the yen to trade for 108.8255.

The Kospi Composite declined 1.33% at 7:24 am CET, the Hang Seng plunged 1.71% or 485 points and the S&P/ASX 200 went down by 1.06%.
