Samsung to invest $151B in logic chips by 2030

Samsung Electronics announced on Thursday that it plans to expand its investments in logic chips technology to reach $151 billion by 2030 in order to speed up semiconductor technology research and build a new production facility.

The company's new investment goal marks a $30 billion increase from a previous commitment made in 2019 to invest $120 billion in logic chip development by 2030. Samsung aims to become the "world leader in logic chips" according to the tech giant's statement. A new production plant in Pyeongtaek that will make 14-nanometer and 5-nanometer logic semiconductors is set to be completed by the second half of 2022.

"The entire semiconductor industry is facing a watershed moment and now is the time to chart out a plan for long-term strategy and investment," said Vice Chairman and Head of Device Solutions Division Kinam Kim. Earlier today, Samsung unveiled that it will partner with Hyundai on finding a solution to the global auto chip shortage.
