McDonald's to raise hourly wages, hire 10,000 at its US restaurants

McDonald's Corp. will raise hourly wages in company-owned restaurants in the United States over the next few months, its US President Joe Erlinger said on Thursday. The decision will impact only around 36,500 employees, as the vast majority of McDonald's restaurants are franchises. The wages will be increased to $11 - $17 an hour for entry-level workers, and $15 - $20 an hour for shift managers.

The fast-food giant is also looking to hire 10,000 new employees in the next three months. "Based on this trajectory of the current marketplace, McDonald's expects the average hourly wage for its company-owned restaurants to increase to $15 an hour in a phased, market-by-market approach. Some restaurants have, or will, reach an average hourly wage of $15 an hour in 2021, and average hourly wages are expected to reach $15 an hour by 2024," the company stated.
