A-Rod, ex-Walmart exec to buy Timberwolves for $1.5B - report

Retired professional baseball player Alex Rodriguez (pictured middle), also known as A-Rod, and former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Walmart Inc.'s eCommerce branch for the United States have reached an agreement to buy the National Basketball Association's (NBA) team Minnesota Timberwolves for $1.5 billion, the Athletic reported on Thursday.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Rodriguez and Lore will sign formal paperwork with Glen Taylor, who currently controls the club, soon and share equal ownership of 50%. Back in 2020, Rodriguez, along with several associates, unsuccessfully tried to purchase Major League Baseball (MLB) team New York Mets.

Minnesota Timberwolves ended the 2020–21 season in the 13th place and failed to qualify for playoffs. In February, the club fired head coach Ryan Saunders and replaced him with Chris Finch.
