Singapore, Hong Kong delay travel bubble again

Singapore's Ministry of Transport announced on Monday that the implementation of the "travel bubble" arrangement with Hong Kong will be postponed again in light of the spike in COVID-19 cases in Singapore.

Hong Kong's Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Edward Yau met with Singapore's Transport Minister S. Iswaran earlier in the day to discuss the arrangement. "Both sides remain strongly committed to launching the ATB safely," said Singapore's Ministry of Transport in a statement. "However, in the light of the recent increase in unlinked community cases, Singapore is unable to meet the criteria to start the Singapore-Hong Kong ATB (Air Travel Bubble)."

The travel deal between the two cities that would allow passengers to avoid quarantine was first set to begin in November 2020 and later deferred to May of this year. The Hong Kong government released a statement noting that another update will be announced on or before June 13.
