Euro area GDP down 0.6% in Q1
Gross domestic product in the Eurozone (EA19) was down 0.6% in the first quarter of 2021, while in the whole European Union (EU) it decreased 0.4%, Eurostat reported on Tuesday.
Portugal and Latvia recorded the biggest decreases in the GDP, while Bulgaria and Romania posted the largest growth. Year-over-year, the economies of Portugal and Spain declined the most.
Employment decreased by 0.3% on a quarterly basis in both the Euro area and the whole bloc. Compared to the prior year, the employment was down 2.1% in EA19 and 1.8% in the EU.
