EMA recommends Pfizer's COVID vaccine for 12-15s

The European Medicines Agency greenlighted the emergency use of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in children aged between 12 and 15 years.

Following the EMA's conclusion, the European Commission is now about to make a final decision regarding the jab's use in the European Union. However, each individual member state will be able to decide on its own whether to carry out the vaccine rollout among adolescents.

The pace of the vaccinations will remain the same regardless of the age group, with at least three weeks needed between the two doses. "None of the vaccinated adolescents got infected with the COVID-19 during the trials," EMA's Dr. Marco Cavaleri noted in his opening statement, adding no major adverse effects have been registered to date.
