EU backs EMA's ruling on vaccinating adolescents with Pfizer

The European Commission approved on Monday the use of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer/BioNTech for children aged 12 to 15, backing the European Medicines Agency's (EMA) recommendation issued during the prior week.

European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides (pictured) took to Twitter to unveil that the Commission's move will enable EU member countries to expand their vaccination rollout to the designated population. "To put an end to the crisis, every dose counts," she concluded.

EMA's Dr. Marco Cavaleri previously stated that no adverse effects were registered among the participants in the study that preceded the decision, adding that none of the inoculated adolescents got infected during the trials.
