Japan's govt will not hesitate to continue fiscal stimulus - official

Japan's Minister for Economic Revitalization Yasutoshi Nishimura (pictured) stated on Friday that the country's government will not hesitate to continue with fiscal support if it is needed to revitalize the economy.

Nishimura also noted that the government is working with the Bank of Japan in order to revive the economy, as well as to avoid deflation. Additionally, the economy minister noted that it is the aim of the government to promote new areas of economic growth, naming digitization and climate change as examples, while also working on ensuring that wages continue to rise.

Nishimura's comments are in line with statements made by the central bank earlier this month when the bank's governor noted that Japan's economy was still under pressure from the measures to fight the pandemic and that the situation in the country was still "severe."
