Dow drops over 100 pts as traders eye inflation data

Stocks on Wall Street traded lower on Monday with the Dow Jones falling over 100 points after opening in the green.

Investors were awaiting this week's inflation data in the hopes of determining the Federal Reserve's next move. Meanwhile, the Securities and Exchange Commission said earlier it has been monitoring recent volatility in certain stocks "to determine if there have been any disruptions of the market, manipulative trading, or other misconduct."

The Dow dropped 119 points at 11:35 am ET, led lower by Dow Inc. and Caterpillar. At the same time, the S&P 500 was down 0.31% following a flat open, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 fell 0.37%.
