BioNTech plans to clear vaccine backlog by end of June

BioNTech SE intends to fulfill its COVID-19 vaccine delivery target for the second quarter, the company's CFO/COO Sierk Poetting told Handelsblatt on Tuesday. The German biotech firm said the delivery backlog, caused by "minor delays in the production processes," should be cleared after June 21.

Poetting added BioNTech estimates it will manufacture a total of three billion doses of its vaccine developed with Pfizer by the end of the year, with no current plans to expand production further. The European Union should receive 300 million doses in 2021 and at least 450 million in 2022.
