Pfizer begins Phase 2 of COVID vaccine trial in young kids - report

Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE are expected to begin their second phase of the coronavirus vaccine clinical trial on healthy children from the ages of six months to 11 years old, a CNBC reporter stated on Tuesday.

According to the report, Pfizer plans to enroll up to 4,500 participants from the United States, Finland, Poland, and Spain in the next stage of the trial. Additionally, the vaccine manufacturer has determined that lower doses of the vaccine were sufficient for younger kids, lowering the dose to 10 micrograms for ages five to 11 and to three micrograms for those aged four years and under.

As for children younger than six months, the company said that they may be evaluated for a trial, once an acceptable safety profile was established.
