Johnson: G7 summit chance to strengthen international ties

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated on Thursday that G7 countries will use the upcoming summit to strengthen their political and economic ties, as he asserted "the world needs this meeting."

In a letter published by Downing Street ahead of the summit, Johnson asserted that the coronavirus pandemic shook "international order and solidarity," but that now is the time for G7 members to "shoulder their responsibilities" and vaccinate the world. Additionally, he also commented on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, saying that it is "time to dispel any sense of gloom" and focus on reinvigorating NATO doctrines and the alliances' future, as he prioritized protecting Europe's eastern flank and safeguarding against cyberattacks.

Johnson also touted the UK's role in the process, saying that when it comes to international alliances the country is "the buckle that fastens, the hyphen that joins," adding that the government will be "putting all of this to work for the benefit of the British people and to ensure this country is a force for good."
