WH: Russia 'not responsible but is accountable' for cyberattacks

White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield stated on Friday that while Russia was not responsible for the latest slew of cyberattacks they are accountable for them.

In an interview with MSNBC, Bedingfield echoed previous statements from the Biden administration that a responsible government cannot allow these actors to operate in its country and conduct these types of attacks. Additionally, she also noted that United States President Joe Biden believes there are many "areas of consensus" that can be reached with his Russian counterpart, but conceded that concerns regarding the upcoming meeting and the relationship between the countries run "deep."

Previously, Russian officials noted that an agreement could be found on the issue of cyberattacks, as McDonald's became the latest company to have its data breached by hackers.
