Johnson tells EU he wants compromise on NI protocol

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson told multiple leaders from the European Union that he wants "pragmatism and compromise on all sides" involved in the Northern Ireland Protocol dispute.

Holding respective discussions at the UK-hosted G7 summit on Saturday with French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel and German Chancellor Angela Merkel this morning, Johnson stressed "that the UK is committed to finding practical solutions within the framework of the Protocol," according to Downing Street.

On the other hand, the British prime minister described the protection of the Good Friday Agreement as "paramount" and "underlined... the need to maintain both the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the UK."
