Biden calls for better coordination on Russia, China

United States President Joe Biden called on Monday for "better coordination" among the members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on Russia and China. Biden pointed out the two countries as "new challenges" facing NATO that have gained prominence "over the last couple of years."

Ahead of the NATO summit in Brussels, the president stated Russia is "acting in a way that is not consistent with what we had hoped." He stressed the alliance's Article Five, which requires members to take action if one of their allies is attacked, calling it a "sacred obligation."

"I want to make it clear, NATO is critically important for US interests in and of itself. If there weren't one, we would have to invent one. It allows America to conduct its business around the world in a way that never would have occurred were it not for NATO," Biden explained.
